We decided, after looking at several home options, to opt for a new build with Meritage in Waltons Grove In Mount Juliet Tennessee, set to be available upon our arrival. We put down 10k in escrow to hold this lot and home and were approved for contingency. Two weeks later, after returning to Colorado preparing for our move, we were told from our realtor that they received another offer on our home that was not contingent and that they may be terminating our contract. First, we were informed that we had 24 hours to decide if we wanted to proceed with purchasing a home or they would move onto the next person on the list.

Our community was switched from Wesley Chapel, where homes are priced significantly higher to Zephyrhills, which is a small rural city with a prison. When the change occurred they let no one out of their contracts without threatening to keep the $10,000 you are required to put down. Before, because I was living within Wesley Chapel limits, I could apply for an exception for my children to attend their wonderful schools. The subsequent derailing of our plans was not only stressful but the lack of direct communication and accountability for this abrupt disruption was so disappointing to say the least. I wouldn’t recommend working with this company unless you’re amenable to unethical practices and being screwed for their financial gain above all else… They will take 4 weeks to refund our escrow however 250$ for “administration fees”.
